10462 Lippitt

Story by Ola Kuzmiankova

Surrounded by mature trees on a corner lot near White Rock Lake, the home at 10462 Lippitt began as a modest 1960s ranch. When Lindsay and Justin purchased it in 2015, they had no idea it would one day become the striking two-story contemporary residence it is today.

“What drew us in was the ceilings — they had a really cool design, these concentric circles that had been molded into them. It’s kind of funny, because it’s a feature we no longer have in the home,” says Justin.
“What also drew me to this home was the trees, the corner lot, the privacy across the road,” Lindsay adds.

You will see what she means when you visit the home: mature trees surround the property, and the landscape is visible from virtually every window.

They had been in their home for about five years before the pandemic happened. Like many families at the time, they suddenly found themselves working from home and needing more space for their growing family and their new lifestyle. They faced a decision — sell and buy something larger, or renovate and expand. But the idea of leaving the neighborhood was out of the question.
Like many families drawn to the White Rock Lake area, Lindsay and Justin had found more than just a house here. They were excited about their kids eventually attending Hexter Elementary, a school they speak about with deep appreciation. The diverse community, the tree-lined streets, and the strong sense of neighborhood connection made staying feel like the only option.

That’s when they reached out to Rene Gracia. They had known him for years — both as a family friend and as a talented architect. He had been to their home many times before and knew it well. Still, the idea of working with him felt almost unimaginable.
After all, this was an architect whose work had been featured on the AIA Dallas Tour of Homes — projects that look like they could be lifted straight from the pages of Architectural Digest, with expansive glass walls, courtyards, and striking designer lighting.

“No, really, I could do it for you,” he told Lindsay and Justin.

His design process began with a simple question: “Tell me about your day-to-day.”
“When you’re dealing with residential architecture, it’s very personal. You’re learning about people’s lives in depth. You get to know the family, the children, the stories, and you’re building something that creates memories,” Rene Gracia said in one of his interviews.

The elements you will find in 10462 Lippitt are classic RGD+B: tall windows overlooking the trees, clerestory windows in the living room, deep overhangs designed for energy efficiency, and an open-tread staircase that creates a sense of lightness and openness.

But more importantly, the home is filled with intentional spaces.

It took two years from the day the ground was broken to the day Lindsay and Justin moved back in. The pandemic did not make things easy. It was April when they finally settled into their new home.

“In the spring and summer when the trees are full, they create this cool shadow that you can see sitting on the couch,” Lindsay says. “It’s as if the light is reflecting off the water. We moved in — it was April — and I remember laying here on the couch, looking up and seeing that, and all the stress just melted away.”

Like many RGD+B homes, the design blurs the boundary between indoors and outdoors — allowing the surrounding landscape and shifting natural light to become part of the architecture itself.

For Lindsay and Justin, opening their doors for the White Rock Lake Home Tour felt like a natural way to give back to the community that has become such an important part of their lives. Their children now attend nearby Hexter Elementary, and supporting the school is something they care deeply about.
By welcoming visitors into their home, they hope to contribute to the community that has given their family so much, while sharing the space they thoughtfully created over the past decade.
